Ellen Schwartz (1949‒ ) is a children’s author. She has published 17 books for children, and one for young adults. Her shorter works have been featured in many anthologies and magazines. Before she began her writing career, Schwartz worked as a teacher of special education and was an environmental educator. Born in Washington, D.C., Schwartz lived in the United States until adulthood, when she moved to Canada with her husband. She now lives in British Columbia.
