Naomi Guttman (1960‒ ) is a teacher and a writer of all forms. She achieved her B.F.A. from Concordia University and her M.F.A from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. She and her husband moved from Montreal to California, where she pursued a graduate degree at UCLA. She holds an M.A. in English Literature, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Guttman and her husband had their first child while living in Los Angeles, where Guttman worked as a teaching assistant and taught composition. After moving to Clinton, New York, Guttman obtained a tenure-track teaching position, before she had even finished her dissertation. Now, she teaches English and Creative Writing at Hamilton College. Guttman has published three award-winning books of poetry: Reasons for Winter (1991), Wet Apples, White Blood (2007), and The Banquet of Donny & Ari: Scenes from the Opera (2015), which is a novella-in-verse. She has also written various creative non-fiction and journalism pieces, which have appeared in Gastronomica, Food and Foodways, as well as in several proceedings of The Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery. Guttman lives with her family in Clinton, New York.
