Nora Gold (1952–) was born in Montreal. She grew up in the area and eventually completed her Bachelor of Social Work from McGill University. She continued her education at the University of Toronto, completing both her Masters and Doctorate of Social Work. Gold continued to teach social work as a tenure professor in the years of 1990– 2000. Gold published her first work, titled Marrow and Other Stories in 1998; the collection went on to win the 1999 Canadian Jewish Book Award. Gold then moved on to focus on her literary career, eventually publishing two other works and working as a writer in residence at the OISE/ University of Toronto's Centre for Women's Studies in Education. Gold’s first novel, Fields of Exile, was published in 2014 and won the 2015 Canadian Jewish Literary Award. The Dead Man was published in 2016 and stands as her last published novel. In 2010, Gold founded the organization JewishFiction.net, whhich continues to be the only English language journal that exclusively exists to publish Jewish fiction. Gold has worked as a professor, writer, editor, and activist. She continues to split her time between Toronto and Israel, and continues to act as editor for the journal JewishFiction.net.
