Libby Scheier (1946‒2000) was born in Brooklyn, New York and received a Bachelor of Arts in French and Philosophy at Sarah Lawrence College, and a Masters of Arts in English from State University of New York at Stony Brook. She held office and membership in several writer’s unions: The Writers' Union of Canada, P.E.N. International, League of Canadian Poets, Modern Language Association, and the Canadian Union of Educational Workers. In 1975, after living in France, Israel, and California at various points in her life, she moved to Toronto, where she became the literary columnist for the Toronto Star. She is the author of poem and short story collections, and editor of Language in Her Eye: Views on Writing and Gender by Canadian Women Writing in English (1990) alongside Sarah Sheard and Eleanor Wachtel. Scheier passed away in 2000, after a battle with breast cancer.
