Roberta Rich (1946‒ ) was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, immigrating to Canada in 1960. She received her education at the University of British Columbia, earning a degree in English and Anthropology, later earning a grad degree in law from the same institution. Rich held a private law practice in Vancouver for 25 years, but sold it in 1990 and began writing. She had been writing since high school, but had not published anything until her debut novel entitled The Midwife of Venice (2011), which was received well and was on The Globe & Mail’s bestseller list for 26 weeks after its release. She has two other publications, entitled The Harem Midwife (2013) and A Trial in Venice (2017). Rich lives in both Vancouver and Colima, Mexico, dividing her time between the two locations.
