Elaine Kalman Naves (1947–) was born in Budapest. She eventually moved to Hungary, and then later to Montreal, Canada, where she still resides. Kalman Naves has written eight books during her career, her first novel being The Writers of Montreal (1993). She has continued to publish several works, including: Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian Jewish Family (1996), Putting Down Roots: Montreal’s Immigrant Writers (1998), Storied Streets: Montreal in the Literary Imagination (2000), Shoshanna’s Story: A Mother, A Daughter, and the Shadows of History (2003), and Robert Weaver: Godfather of Canadian Literature (2007). Her two most recent novels are entitled Portrait of a Scandal: The Abortion Trial of Robert Nolman (2013) and The Book of Faith (2015). Elaine Kalman Naves has won the Quebec Writers’ Federation Awards Mavis Gallant Prize for Non-Fiction twice, in 1999 and 2003. Additionally, The Book of Faith was long listed for the Leacock Award in 2015.
