Katherine Ashenburg (1945‒ ) has pursued several different career paths. She began her career with a PhD dissertation on Charles Dickens, but soon left the academic world. She was a radio producer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and then the arts and books editor at The Globe and Mail. Currently, she is a freelance writer, lecturer, and teacher. Ashenburg has four published non-fiction books: Going to Town: Architectural Walking Tours in Southern Ontario (1996), The Mourner’s Dance: What We Do When People Die (2002), The Dirt on Clean: An Unsanitized History (2008), and All the Dirt: A History of Getting Clean (2016). More recently, Ashenburg published her first ever piece of fiction, her debut novel Sofie and Cecilia (2018), at the age of 72. Her next novel, Her Turn, is set to release on 6 July 2021.
