John Ware was one of only two black men in and around Calgary in the late 1890's. He was the stuff that myths are made of: larger than life, strong like superman. The conceit of the play is built around a young white man (Billy), doing a show in "our" time. He inadvertently conjures up the ghost of John and the ghost of the only other black man at that time, Jess Williams, a brutal killer, and the ghost of his wife, Mildred. The young man tries to do his show; John and Jess Williams fight, literally, for his life and soul.
