Access to historic legal documents is essential to the ongoing practice of law; Libraries are a cornerstone of democracy; budget cutbacks (in light of the move towards digitization and the mistaken assumption that paper materials are irrelevant and IT professionals can manage all information needs) are the largest threat to our services; the Canadian government does not appear prepared to address longterm information preservation needs.
