A woman in 18th-century Montreal woman is sentenced to hang for stealing a pair of gloves. Her one chance at life is finding a man willing to become the hangman and marry her. In prison, she finds a hole in the wall of her cell, and through the hole, a voice--a young soldier in the next cell, who has never seen her.
