The archivist's problem is that ideally everything should be archived, perhaps a more achievable and inspiring goal is needed for the Archives of Canada; any government will only energetically support things in which citizens are involved, so libraries and archives ought to remain relevant if they expect government funding; libraries are not being used by wealthier citizens who BUY their entertainment; library SPACE is crucial--readers are bodies and bodies need space; the CMU library is designed to be the heart of the university; libraries must cultivate a wide range of information technologies; the library should be the place people associate with cultural memory and its production.
