When Rosa attempts to sell the family home in the Strathcona area of Vancouver, her Nonna rolls over in her grave, wakes, and bellows for her to stop. Full of humour warmth, Fresco is a play about the Italian internment in Canada but also a celebration of the resilience and contribution of the Italian Canadian community to our society. Rosa uncovers generations of secrecy surrounding her Italian grandfather's internment during World War II, when Fascist Italy joined forces with Nazi Germany. The move put Italy at war with Canada and threw Italian communities across Canada under deep scrutiny and suspicion.
