These traditional Chinese characters form phrases often wished upon family members and close friends during the Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is about bringing a positive start to the new year by celebrating the good health and success of the past year while wishing for the best of luck for the coming new year. The first phase on the left reads vertically (top to bottom). " 身 體 健 康" is pronounced shēn tǐ jiàn kāng often wishing good health upon those who hear this message. While the second phrase reads "萬 事 如 意" pronounced wàn shì rú yì means all the best. I have used traditional Chinese lanterns and lucky red pockets to decorate and frame the phrases as visual reminders of the new year. In the bottom right-hand corner, I have signed using my mandarin name 黄 婷欣 pronounced huáng tíng xīn to finish off this piece. Two powerful and positive messages help remind me to continue being positive through the COVID-19 pandemic while remaining grateful and hopeful for everyone's good health around me.
