Youth Mental Health Crisis
Description
Canada's top children's hospitals, including CHEO, are declaring a mental health emergency among children and youth as the COVID-19 pandemic is prolonged. Suicide attempt admissions have increased by 100% on average during the pandemic and the admissions for substance-use disorders have increased by 200%. The pandemic has harmed 70% of children ages 6 to 18’s mental health. In particular impacting the most vulnerable and racialized children. The term ‘Code Pink’ is used to declare a paediatric emergency and the campaign is calling on the federal and provincial governments to act immediately to address this crisis.
