Background on NBPLS, incl. vision, mision, and mandate; NBPLS offers one integrated library system for all public library service points in the province and has a provincial committee structure; discusses strategic priority to develop services for Aboriginal people, new Canadians and people with disabilities and outlines several pilot projects; An issue in the future will be fostering continued investment in library facilities at the municipal level; lack of funds as well as authority and flexibility at provincial level to do social marketing and promotion; offers examples of partnerships; challenge to build a bilingual platform for born-digital material; Ideally, a Canadian institution, such as LAC should have the role of preserving and providing access to born-digital Canadian publications; vital to build positive, strong relationships with publishers; NBPLS is a success story as we are a provincial system, with libraries jointly funded by provincial government and local municipalities with responsibilities framed in provincial legislation.
