Due to funding constraints and lack of long-term funding plan, public libraries in NS fall short of their goal for services. Inconsistencies are especially prominent in rural and Aboriginal communities. NS Department of Communities, Culture, and Heritage is undertaking “Cultural Sector Strategy” to quantify contributions to GDP. NS was the first province to provide internet access in every public library. See list of suggested improvements in professional education.
