"Molotov Circus" is a coming-of-age story. It centres around an itinerant circus family and their teenaged daughter, Albina, who wants to run away from the circus and join the real world. The play takes the idea that every teenaged girl feels like she's trapped in a family of freaks and blows that notion up in Technicolor. The play explores the effects of her coming of age on the whole family: the daughter's sexual awakening, the father's changing relationship with his daughter, the mother's reckoning with her own mortality as her daughter's sexual power increases, and the death of innocence.
