The Canadian copyright for the play was registered in 1932; it was performed by the Winnipeg Little Theatre in 1934.

This first edition is aimed at a juvenile audience. It's 29 chapters contain a significant amount of graphic narrative.

This second, expanded edition is aimed at a more adult audience; it contains 63 chapters with fewer illustrations than the original 1929 edition.

A revised edition of the book was published in 1946.
