In the People’s Army there is always room for a new idea

“to be employed. Dr. Telge told me of one of the new ideas
lwhich had proven to be very useful. This method is called an

“Equipe,” which is the name given to a surgical team. Each
'“Equipe’° is named after the surgeon who is the head of the

“team. These “Equipe" illustrate the international composition

There was the “Dr. Jolly Equipe” named after Doctor
jolly who comes from Australia. The anaesthetist was Eng»

ish, the assistant surgeon Polish and the sterilization man was

In the “Equipe Brozzi,” Dr. Brozzi was a Catalonian, the

assistant M.D. Spanish, the female nurse American and the

male nurse Polish.

Heavy demands often call for long hours on duty for these

doctors and nurses, some times it has reached three days at a

stretch without a break. On-e nurse said to me, referring to

“blood transfusion operations at the front:—“Most of the staff

were called on to supply new blood for our Unit, a pint at a

"time or perhaps even a quart being required. It meant new life
‘for the wounded men."

Clinic Services, free of charge, were organized in many
places for the villages. Many cases were treated in the homes

«of the people of the village. One little girl was brought to the
army clinic with a broken arm. She was treated and after a few
._..flays was sent to her home in an army auto. Numerous such
«eases have made a good impression upon the people.
