MIGHT say a few words about the envir- onment «here. We are in a very beautiful part of Spain. We have fresh flowers in our rooms. Through the window-s we can see palms an-d vari-ous other trees and shrubbery. We can see nicely laid out gardens. In the back ground are rugged hills. We have the afternoon to wander around town. My grst afternoon -is still to come, so I cannot write about the town. - Yesterday afternoon a 1, concert was -provided for the patients here. We had a girl soloist who sang and played beautifully, a stud- ents quartet gave us clas- ical selection on the violin flute. We had students singing revolutionary songs; a 313: girl danced for us. ‘ hope that this year the League will be able to help a real united May Day with the CCYM. I look forward to a reply from you carrying all the im- ’, t news from Canada. I would like to hear from our an comrades. You can write to R 175, Soccoro Rojo, te, Spain.

I HAVE put off writing again from day to day, hoping that
I would get suflicient grasp back in «my writing hand
to hold a pen. However I feel ambitious this afternoon and
will make another amateur attempt. I am surprised myself
how I manage to make out with the other one. It seems most-
ly a matter of confidence if I go slow and careful the re-
sult isn't much good——if I just plunge in, the attempt is at least rreadable. I hope -it is anyway.
My wound .is almost complete healed but the ligaments which were «damaged are slower. It will probable take a couple -of weeks -of exercising and massaging :before they are in shape. I. can bend every part of the hand but they are very stiff. Peg can give you -a diagnosis of that.
' I FOUND a big surprise t-o me any- way in the garden. American blue violets in profusion. The spring flow- ers are beginning to bloom-—daff«o1di1s, hy-acinths, blue bells, a sort -of tulip and a few unknown buds, also the plum trees. I think they are in mag- nificent bloom. But t-he violets were a surpr:ise———a sort of real sbreath form : home. If we get a few sunny days to ' dry things up a bit I’m going to ask : permission to ‘putter around the flow- ? er beds. A little work now would 5 make them beautiful this summer an-d . _ it is quite probable some of the boys Larry Ryan will still -be here then. '
We don’t get very many English papers here and very seldom an American one. If you happen to meet any people who feel big-hearted and want to‘ do something special, tell them to send the news section of daily papers, or Clarion. Just tell them to send them, addressed to Soccoro Rojo, Room 17.1, Alb-acete, Spain. They will distribute them. It won't mat- ter if they are weeks old—-they are from home.‘ You might contact the Clarion office and ask if papers are being sent. AS FAR a:s myself is concerned, I can't really say that I
am in want for anything. There are a few t-hings that I feel that I want, but can’t claim t-o be very much put out without them. They are chiefly cigarettes and sweets, such as chocalate and home made apple pie just out of the oven. What a break Don is -getting on the pies with me away. It takes so long for return mail and especially parcels. I hesitate to say you might send something -along. However if you d-o, make it cigaretts and chocolate, in -bars, ‘I expect-t it would eventually catch up to me. I -have been daily expecting a letter from h-ome—it is nearly sufficient time elapsed now for an answer to get «here.
Will write again in a few days.
As ever Larry.
