Frank Hadesbeck, Ste. #10 - #10 Pioneer Drive, Regina, Sask. SAT 6L7

Dear Comrade Hadesbeck ° Thank you for your letter which I received today.

The main thrust of my letter to the editor of the

Leader Post was to correct the opinion expressed in that report published Oct. 13th in which the Volunteers were categorized into three groups, namely: "honest revolutionaries"; "fools"; and "opportunists". That was why I quoted from the address of Mr. John Campbell in the House of Commons to give "a more balanced assessment” of the Mac-Pap volunteers. You refer to this in your letter as a second issue of my letter and accept the correction with apology. I accept your apology with sincere thanks.

with regards to the first part to which you,

apparently, take strong objection to, I would like to assure you that no offense was meant to you whatever when I quoted from the press the words "wasn't injured" and "surrounded by death for 18 months". These were not my words. They were contained in the article. I did not interpret them in any way as being offensive. Had I known that you were wounded I would not only have refrained from quoting them but drawn attention to them as not being factual. However, as this has caused you much emotional stress, I am sorry this has happened and sincerely apologize for it.

I If I may, Frank, on this point, I would suggest you write a brief note to the Leader Post drawing their attention to the words "wasn't injured" as not being correct and state how 3 you were injured. I'm sure they would publish the correction.

Further on the points you raise in your letter in discussion. First let me assure you that neither in my letter or in any discussion have I questioned or do question in my own mind the part you played in that battle against fascism in Spain. The words of Mr. Campbell that I quoted apply to you equally

* as to others.
