My impressions of San Pedro de Cardena (1) Liberty at last all that it means. for the present one hates to think of the past. yet to remove false impressions of conditions in the concentration camp is our first consideration for our comrades left in prison their. We arrived at night hungry + exhausted from the journey. and old convent was to be our home for how long we knew not. unloaded + searched we passed under its grim portals. long corridors poorly lighted. the cement floor for a bed + our jackets for a covering. later we were issude old mattresses + blankets alive with lice and fleas. and so began an existence which I hope never to experience again. Poor food regimentations + beatings were things we had to endure for our whole stay their the latter worsening with the arrival of 3 sargeants. sadists with out a trace of humanity.
