Dear all,

CWRC’s migration to the Compute Canada Cloud is finally here!!!

Between Aug 15 and Aug 22 the CWRC research space and repository will be moved to the CC infrastructure. The move will be accompanied by some changes to the CWRC system architecture, which we hope will increase the performance of the site.

What to expect during the move:

Starting on Aug 15 (Wednesday) we will block all authenticated users from accessing their accounts on so as to prevent people from modifying existing materials or adding new ones. Any changes made during the migration might be lost if done at the wrong time.
The site itself will continue to be visible through the migration period, barring a few 2-3 hours periods when we will need to take it down. You will see a “site down” notice on the cwrc URL when that will happen.
Once the migration has been completed, we will reinstate all user privileges and notify you that you can return to your work.

Questions you may have:

  • I need to showcase/demo my project during this time period, can you postpone the migration?

We chose this time of the year for the migration partially because it is generally a low trafic period, but if you happen to have something scheduled for one of the days mentioned, please contact us as soon as possible and we will work together to find a solution that would meet your needs while keeping the migration going.

  • Are my existing materials safe during this transition?

We believe that the approach we’re employing will lead to no data loss, but we encourage you to check your materials once the migration is complete and to let us know if you find anything amiss. Also, please keep in mind that we backup the repository periodically and that the University of Alberta Library preservation unit is continuously archiving the content of the repository.

  • What happens to my multisite during the migration?

If you are a multisite holder, please expect additional one-on-one communication from us re managing the transition.

We thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this lengthy process and we’ll keep you posted as we progress through the migration.
As always, if you have any questions/emergencies, please contact us at one/both of the following email addresses:

Best regards,
