10 “Other goods needed will be brought to your attention as the need becomes urgent.” What has been done to supply this need will be dealt with later on in the report. Mr. A. A. MACLEOD VISITS FRANCE AND SPAIN On Mr. MacLeod's return from over-seas a special meeting of the Executive was held to receive his report. Mr. A. A. MacLeod presented his report stating that the object of his over-seas trip was: 1. To make a thorough investigation into the work of the Blood Transfusion Service in Spain and,to meet with the Canadians there and to make recommend- ations in regard to the continued support of the work. 2. To meet Dr. Bethune in Paris and arrange regarding his return to Canada with the moving picture film. 3. To investigate other lines of relief work that the Canadian Committee might undertake having particular reference to Children’s Aid. Mr. MacLeod reported having met with the Coordination Committee in Paris and then proceeding to Spain where he was met by H. Sorensen and Allen May in Valencia who reported regarding interviews with Government officials particularly Dr. Barber who had been gazetted head of the Blood Transfusion Service, who paid high tribute to the initiative and organiza- tional ability of Dr. Bethune. In Valencia he visited the fine headquarters of the Institute in which the Canadian Committee have 25,000 pesetas invested. He then went to Madrid travelling with His Excellency de los Rios, Spanish Ambassador to the United States. In Madrid he met Hazen Sise. Almost the first thing he witnessed in Madrid was an extraction in the Institute. The following day he had a 9 hour session with the Canadians, this followed into a conference in which the Spanish doctors and laboratory workers were also invited. As a result of this Conference a number of proposals were agreed upon to be made to Dr. Barber. These were later taken up with Dr. Barber and as a result he recommends concurrence in the following recommendations:- l. That the Canadian Committee assume responsibility for all obligations incurred prior to July 1st, 1937. 2. That the Committee agree to make a monthly contribution of $500.00 beginning July 15th and continuing to December 15th, 1937.
