PROVINCIAL ELECTION PLATFORM LABOR rnoenassnve PARTY:

DEVELOP MANIIOBA FOR HER prom!

srop THE SELL-OUT or OUR PROVINCE TO THE U. s. A.

We believe in Manitoba, in her future as a province, great and

abundant! 1 .

We have theipeople, the resources, the youth and opportunities for

the -development of great new industries, a prosperous agriculture, which ,

can adequately provide for the well-being 1 and security of a rapidly growing population in this and other generations.

We believe that ...Manitoba can attain her true greatness through adoption by her people of a constructive, democratic programme which puts the interests of citizens’, province ‘and country first! , !

Such is the challenge of these times! It has the same great meaning for us and future generations today as did the efforts of the Red River settlers to establish responsible government and, a charter of people’s

rights in their day! , . OUR TRADITIONS

Less than ‘ninety years ago the pioneer settlers of , the Red River valley emblazoned this lesson upon the pages of history with their struggle for freedom and a secure future on these plains. Their first government——a peop1e’s government, and the resulting establishment of our province within confederation, were the products of this heroic struggle under the leadership of that great Manitoba patriot Riel. The people defeated the conspiracy of the dominant financial interests then to keep the Northwest Territories backward and enslaved, and they defeated the schemes of predatory U.S. interests to annex our land.

Today these great traditions of our people, enriched by the mighty Winnipeg General Strike of 1919, the sweeping revolt of the progressive farmers in 1921, and the. great relief battles of the 30’s—inspire confidence

in the power of the people for change and advancement. Our traditions _

take on new meaning at a time when U.S. capital is stripping us of our resources and robbing us of our political freedom and independence! Our natural wealth—minerals, oil, forests, are being sold outright to American billionaires; ‘US. military forces are on Manitoba’s soil. Markets ‘for our farm products are shrinking, "prices dropping, as a

consequence of U.S. domination. The average wage rate in Manitoba

is the lowest in Western Canada, as a result of government policy to induce U.S. and other capital investment in the province.

Such.’ are the results of Premier Campbell’s administration, the provincial agent of the Liberal government in Ottawa, which acts on behalf of Wall Street and its military brass at the-federal level. Their subservience to US. dictation has robbed us of our national independ- ence, hindered ourgindustrial expansion, and dooms our province to the fate of producer of raw materials for the American war economy.

THE ALTERNATIVE

. The Tory and C.C.F. parties do not provide any alternative to these policies, for they are united with the Liberal Party on the war program of the St. Laurent government, with its staggering and ruinous arma- ment expenditures. Nor does the Social Credit party of Alberta provide an alternative. The spokesmen of this party in Ottawa only seek a more vigorous and energetic implementation of the government’s war
