В Бильбао стреляли по окнах помеще-
ния в котором мы находились.
Потом „San Pedro de Cardeña”. Нас встре-
тили палками с первого дня и продол-
жали бить вплоть до нашего от’езда.
Наша пища состояла из чечевицы
наполовину с овсом, кое-когда фасоль
вареные иногда с отбросами свиной ту-
ши, как уши хвосты, половые органы,
и копыта ослов и мулов. Кормили
также рыбой свареной с чешуей и
внутренностями, на десерт получали
палки. 700 человек спало в 2 поме-
щениях (два этажа) как селедки в
бочке, вшей - несметное количество.
На 700 людей один кран с водой и
два клозета. Кое-кто имел барахло
называемое матрасом, остальные спали
на цементном полу. И днем и ночью
врывались очень часто к нам сержан-
ты и капралы, и били кого попало и
где попало. „Гестапo” посещало
нас ежедневно выпытывая всю поднаготную.

In Bilbao, the windows were shot in the build-
ing where we were staying.
Next was San Pedro de Cardeña. We were met
with clubs from the first day, and they conti-
nued beating up until our departure.
Our food consisted of lentils half-and-
half with oats, sometimes cooked beans
and occasionally with discards from pig car-
casses, like ears, tails, and sex organs,
and the hooves of donkeys and mules. We were
also fed fish cooked with the scales and
innards, and for dessert we got beat with
clubs. 700 men slept in 2 premi-
ses (two floors) like sardines in a
barrel, and lice - in countless numbers.
For 700 people, one faucet with water and
two toilets. Some guys had enough stuff
to [sleep on], and the rest of us slept
on the cement floor. Both day and night
we’d be invaded very often by the ser-
geants and corporals, who would beat whomever
and wherever. The Gestapo visited
us daily, questioning us to get the lowdown.
