After chatting with her for hall’-an-hour. its easy
to understand why. Hearing her arrange social
afiairs, answer quations, greeting callers-
with an use that giva each guest the imprmsion she has
no other thoughtin the world, than for their particular
coml’ort—is rather hreath-taking. You conclude there is
only one answer to it. Mrs. Anderson was born for the
job. She is all things to all people: a hostess—-an execu-
tive——an ndvisor——a friend.

scrawled with the signature, but enough to tell that
here, the giver has found a genuine friend.

ly. She has performed little personal services for
many of them, such as, for instancn.»—sipping tea
(let us hope Lipton’s with Sir Thomns;-—accompnny-
ing alonely and (then) lutely bereaved Harry Lauder
to the thes.tre;—giving confidence to the distraught
daughter of England's Prime Minister, Ishbel
MacDonald, when she was to nddress the Canadian
Women's Club;-—taking the Hon. Mrs. Coventry to
the Exhihi_tion——-l The, and dozens of other
services, have given Mrs. Anderson the unique op-
portunity of meeting the great and neur-great, he-
hind the scena5—so to speak.

"People who become famous—" said this interesting
hostms, chatting over lunch one day, "are really quite
simple and unaffected, no matter how glamorous they
may appear in their public role. Meeting them informally,
you often wonder wherein lies their greatness or genius
as the case may be. You would scldom pick them
out as celebrities. It rather makes their glory fade. I
suppose that's why a man is never a hero to his valet."

"But stage stars——reolly famous ones——7" Mrs.
Anderson was asked, "Don’t they show the divine
spark?"

“They shed their glory with their stage costumes.
They seem to turn their talents on and off like a top.
The only one I ever met who domn't do this, is George
Arliss. He is much the same otl-stage, as on. You know
